University of Minnesota researchers confirmed NoviSphere’s 99.99% efficacy against live coronavirus, publishing their results in the Journal of the American Chemical Society’s Environmental Science & Technology branch. These results were achieved using germicidal 254 nm UV-C light, paired with a proprietary entrapment chamber and sealed UV-C lamps, ensuring optimal pathogen elimination and continuous air purification.
The study titled "Greater than 3-Log Reduction in Viable Coronavirus Aerosol Using UV-C in a Flowing Air Model" investigates the efficacy of UV-C light in inactivating airborne coronaviruses within a controlled airflow environment.
Key Findings:
UV-C Efficacy
Sealed UV-C flow reactors, operating at a wavelength of 253 ± 1 nm with fluences between 13.9 and 49.6 mJ/cm², effectively inactivated coronaviruses present in aerosols.
Log Reduction
A significant reduction in viable virus was observed, achieving over a 3-log decrease, which corresponds to a 99.99% reduction in viral load.
Inactivation
The inactivation was attributed to the germicidal properties of UV-C light, which damages the viral RNA, rendering the virus non-infectious.

Implications for Air Purification:
The findings suggest that integrating UV-C light into air purification systems can be an effective strategy for reducing airborne viral transmission.
By incorporating UV-C flow reactors, such as those utilized in NoviSphere's air purification products, it's possible to achieve high levels of pathogen elimination, enhancing indoor air quality and safety.
This study underscores the potential of UV-C technology as a reliable method for continuous air disinfection, particularly in settings where controlling airborne pathogens is critical.
